Well, it's that time of year again - the holidays are behind us and the dreary task of taking down all the festive decorations and disposing of that browning and brittle Christmas tree is upon us. Each year our family stumbles on the same question - "what do we do with our tree?" - this can be a head scratcher, particularly if you live in the city limits and don't have brush burning options, or large wooded acreage to leave your tree to nature's decomposition. And as a "green" city many Chattanoogans desire to recycle their trees rather than add to the increasing levels of the landfill. Well, Chattanoogans we are in luck as there are a number of options for Christmas tree disposal and recycle. If you live inside the Chattanoog city limits you can simply call 311 and schedule a curbside pick up for your tree. Note, that you need to call 311 the day you put your tree out in front of your home (this service is for residential properties only) and they will schedule your tree to be picked up within 1-5 business days, depending on the work load of the brush pickup provider. The trees that are picked up by the city service are recycled through the Wood Waste Recycling Facility on North Hawthorne. If you live outside the area for curbside pick up you can take your tree to the Wood Waste Recycling Facility at 3925 North Hawthorne Street, they accept trees from residential and business - however, there is a small charge of $6.50 for any load under a ton and this applies to tree disposal. They accept tree drop-off Monday - Friday from 8-4 and Saturday from 8-3 (except for the second Saturday of each month when they are closed for hazardous waste disposal.)
There are also some additional options for tree disposal in towns outside of the Chattanooga area - check out this list for helpful details and contact info and for more information and an interesting article about Christmas tree recycling check out this 5 step guide to tree-cycling.
All of us at Robinson Real Estate wish you all a happy and healthy 2011!!!
